Stage Two
Right, we've now started work on the interiors of the beast. It's taken a while and will take alot more of a while but at least we've started. There's really been no choice to start because of the stereo, which is good because the last update to the interior was nearly 3 years ago. The first thing being tackled is the door trims, again by Nick from Karatan. I'm not interested in the car being a show car or anything so we're not doing it to that extreme but it's going to be decent.
To fit the reasonably sized Alpine 6.5"s into the door we gave up immediately with trying to get them into the existing trim, had to be a big custom job, luckily Nick was up to it and has made a fibreglass house for them that will fit onto the new moulding for the door trim he's made, yes he made a new door trim outta fibreglass as the old one was way too worn and well getting a good second hand one isn't any easy task. There was a little miscommunication and Nick ended up doing the whole door in the blue vinyl he bought instead of just a line through new black trimmed doors, we both decided that the all blue looks pretty wrong lol and he's going to do them with black carpet and add a blue vinyl strip through the middle. Should look pretty good and of course photos will be up as soon as it's ready.
For the rear parcel shelf Nick made a really cool moulding that houses the rear splits and the rear webcam, the webcam will sit slightly higher than it is in the photo above and I love the way the speakers are mounted at an angle, should make the sound waves bounce off the ceiling nicely. It's a fantastic job and took me by surprise as I thought he was just going to do a standard rear parcel shelf, but he's done a great custom solution, can't wait to hear it. As you can see the same blue vinyl was used to cover the housing and I'll have to make changes to the interior trims to match when I'm ready for that.
Stage One
After nearly 3 years of sitting in the driveway the time has come for the mighty beast to make its move back to life. This begins with a clean, a serious clean, after sitting in one spot, completely motionless, exposed to the elements for this long alot of crap has built up, alot more than I thought, amongst the spiders and their webs lay a few surprises....
___
Peter from WoW wash arrived around 9:30am, after discovering house keys, a mate's wifes xrays, an ants nest, and a boxed unopened bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue label!! he's managed to clear the car of its first hurdle. They've done an unbelievable job, the inside of the car is like showroom condition, the outside would be too if not for the rust and patchy paint lol. So the spiders are gone, or hiding really well, the rust is exposed and the true state of the car has come to light. It's gonna be a long road ahead. Yes the second pic below is ants, ants in the boot.
___
Now the car will be towed to Savvas, where he'll make sure everythings ok before it gets a kick start, at which point he'll take it down the road to the rust dude, who'll cut the rust out and generally make the car registerable! The rust is so bad on the roof that it might just be easier to throw a nice big sunroof in hmmm....
___
So anyway, Maroubra towing is on the way and will be here tomorrow morning actually to pick the beast up. Oh and if you need something cleaned, like an old Volvo, give WoW a call on 1300 300 456, great service, great job A++ ! Also here's a little video of the action live!
