242 GT Performance

Stage Three

Things are slowly progressing here, pun kinda intended :p, but of course I had to fix the exhaust before I could get it registered so this update should have been up a while back but I've been lazy.

Didn't do anything to fancy here, just a 'racing' exhaust system from tuffy in Alexandria, it was just easier to get it down at tuffy coz Savvas knows them and could easily take the car for the work done, I choose that tip myself, I thought it suited the car better than a standard round one.

I also had the car lowered a little, after the rims were put on I felt the front of the car was way higher than the rear. The wheel arches don't help that problem either.

So after a day at Pedders in Alexandria we managed to get her down a massive 1 inch on the front, yes you read right, just 1 inch, they guys really didn't wanna go any further coz of rubbing but I dunno, after seeing it, and driving her, I reckons we coulda gone down more. Oh well, if we've got some cash left in the kitty (unlikely) when everythings done we might take it down a bit more.

Stage Two

OK... so we're back at Savvas, and just like below she was towed right there, with the bodywork pretty much done, the car's now at Savvas getting ready for a blue slip inspection, and as you may know they are pretty thorough, so he's basically just picking everything, small and big and asking me what to do, I've told him to just go ahead and do anything he thinks is reasonable. So I'll be bring you updates over the next couple of weeks of the work taking place here. To be honest I'm not expecting a huge deal to be done here, there'll certainly be some stuff to do but the car, as I understand it, is quite mechanically sound. Hope I'm right.

___

The first major thing was to be changed were the disc brakes, as you can see they were in quite bad shape, something that came as no surprise given the car was being worked on for around 2 years and before that just sat around for a few years, they new discs, look so.... well... new!

___

Now when I started the car a few weeks ago I did think it was loud, louder than it was when I used to drive it, but I wasn't 100% sure, so I just thought that's how it sounded, obviously this isn't the case, as you can see there's some pretty serious damage here. Tuffy, around the corner from Savvas will be used to fix this work, as the car is unregistered at this stage, transporting it all the way to lambros and back just to fix this really isn't feasible. So hopefully that'll be done in the next week or so.

Stage One

Right so, 7am Tuesday morning one of the fellas from Maroubra Towing rocks up and starts loading her onto flatbed for the start of the short, but also long journey ahead.

___

I jumped into the c70 and drove straight to Savvas, where the 242 was heading. Not sure what to expect Savvas and the boys to say, whatever happens happens, it looked good shining in the morning light though lol. Having arrived at Savvas Automotive, there was some difficulty getting the car off the flatbed, as the car is a little lowered, and the tyres were flat, so the front spoiler was hitting the road. Luckily Lucas managed to get the air hose to the car and topped it up a bit.

___

After having an initial brief chat with Lucas and Savvas, I headed off to work and left the 242 in their capable hands. They were going to make sure she could be started without issues, making sure the fuel lines are clean, replacing the oil and fuel and changing things like spark plugs before they give her that kick of life for the first time in years. I spoke to Savvas a couple of days later. The news about the rust was bad as expected, however I didn't expect the rust dude (Fernando) to say she needs a new roof! Curse that roof antenna >.< I dont want to say no and get a botch job done coz I want her to be in good shape, I think I just gotta grin and bear it, I want it completely rust free.

___

As you can see above, there'es alot of damage on the roof, and theres also a shot of one of the doors, oh well what can I expect from years of neglect? I'll be speaking with Fernando and Savvas to get a general quote and give the go ahead for the rust work to be done.
