iPod Power
Right now I know I said earlier that I will be replacing the stereo in the C70, however plans have changed slightly, or actually been delayed, with this year focusing on the 242 GT, there isn't much money in the kitty for the C70. With this in mind I decided to have my 60gb iPod installed into the factory stereo.
As you may be able to see from one of the above pics, this particular Volvo stereo does infact have an extra port in the back for an optional 6 stacker CD, however for some strange reason the iPod adapters sold that allow the iPod to plug into the CD stacker port are not compatible with this stereo *sigh* they have the same pin type plug but I was assured it would not work. So I went with the FM modulator, the one that plugs directly into the back of the antenna in on the stereo.
Clive from thecarkitcompany.com.au arrived on a Tuesday morning at home to install the kit, would take about 20 mins, however there were issues, the antenna connection was about half the size of what he was expecting so he had to call it quits for the day and get back to me later, about 2 weeks later I call him and he tells me he's got the part, we book the installation in again with the sound guarantee that if I'm not happy with it they take it out and no charge to me, it's a no holes install btw.
After about 30 minutes the installation was finished, and I have to say the sound was very good, not quite CD quality but it's nearly there, especially when its a good quality MP3. Believe me I'm very fussy about sound and it was good enough to get me by till I arrange something more permanent, one problem though, when I'm in the Sydney CBD there is too much interference from stations close to the frequency, but its not too bad when I get to the SCG its fine and in some areas in the city its OK too, so overall I'm happy with it as an interim solution. So now where I go so do my 7000 songs!
iPod Power ** UPDATE **
OK after some research on some forums I found an adapter that connects my iPod directly into my spare CD stacker!! So now there's no FM or radio signal, it's pure digital bliss, managed to use the same cradle from the other installation, so that was cool and explains why I have no new photos to show you.
Here is the adapter, I highly recommend this solution to anyone that finds themselves in a situation like mine.
